Quote
“Nothing matters very much, and very little matters at all” - Arthur James Balfour
Interpretation
We interpreted that the quote meant: most things don’t don’t matter, and only a limited number of things matter to any extent.
We then listed what we thought didn’t matter, what did matter, what mattered only a little bit, and what mattered most:
Aim
Our aim was, by process of elimination, to find out what mattered most to people.
Initial Visualisations
firstly, we tried visualising ‘nothing’. Ideas included: deserts, bottomless oceans. Space, Nuclear explosions, Deleting apps, ruins.
Our first idea was a scale (from least important to most) that members of the public could place anything on.
We made a small model of this that we went around the classroom with. (If you disagreed with any placements you could redraw in red pen)
Then we had the idea of an ‘anti-matter’ gun that people could shoot down the things that mattered least. The first concept for this was that it would shoot tippex that could be drawn over. This seemed impractical, so we then thought of using water pistols that could shoot down images drawn onto tissue paper - which would go all soggy and fall off. In the end we decided on a rubber band gun that could be shot into a bag below the thing the person had chosen.
testing
For testing1, we had tried to take the picture of the quote inside the bin, then we explore from the bin, (there is a world map back in the class)we try to put the country that people doesn't care about inside the bin.
testing2
drew a mask and asked everyone to wear them, they can choose they want to use the side that doesn't matter or does matter.
testing3 asking everyone to draw down the things that they matter most and doesn't matter.
Gun
anti matter gun is one of our tool to let people intrest in.
So I have paint the gun to make it more interesting(and let people feel like gaming )
The design is explore by the laser gun.At first we choose to use the water gun but we want to collect and count out who many that audience had choose , so we change into rubber gun.
