EVALUATION

The aim of my proposal was to let the people find out who they are when they feel lost in their life; Taiwan as a country which has been colonized from different countries, people especially teenagers can’t identify their special feature and be proud in their culture.

The westernized culture is the key that creates decisions result in achieving my aims. From choosing the media to the style of visual language, I have tested using a different way to present, for example, on the poster, on the 3D model or on the booklet etc. But the decisions of the final outcome was present as a film, which I that this media is the most attractive way to engage with the audience, and also the easiest way to convey the whole story to the audience.

I believe I did achieve what I set out to do in my proposal as I did create an intermediary that could connect the Taiwanese special feature and the audience that stay in abroad. I have mixed the feedback from the tutorial, using the Taiwanese culture mix with the western culture which effects from the American movie during the 90s rather than using the multicultural clothing between British and Taiwan which doesn't connect to each other in the history.

Graceful for the suggestion, I have thought about changing my proposal into middle-class culture and history during westernization. From all of these research, I have also learned deeply about the history that has happened not only in my own culture but also between Asia and Westen during the research, and I’m surprised I was also the one who doesn’t understand my country’s special feature.

Without doing too much research on the artist film, my outcome has referenced to the advertising film in the 60s, the photographers who shoot the daily life rather than the perfect commercial shoot; these do influence my work a lot.”Touching and moving “ is the keywords I focused during the visual research, I learned the importance of the lighting, colour temperature and the shape from the frame which have shaped my work a lot, these details are the emphasis to convey the emotion to the audiences.

The most successful of my project is the way I convey the feeling to the audience, the film and photo techniques are varied, which make the audience could have different feedback and actually feel touched after watching the film and the photoshoot. I’m proud I can work very detail but also troubled with it, the weakness of my work is too much detail and the audience can’t actually catch the point from my work, without the explanation, they might have thousand of the way to explain my work,I think is good that they have different feelings, but my purpose its not making an art film, I should learn to control the limit of the information that I’m going to put in the work.

After I finished my final outcome, reference from the photographer I have researched before, I found out they actually shoot in the location rather than the set. I will like to shoot my work with the same concept in Taiwan, without shooting it in the famous place that people can identify the location as “Taiwan” for example night market or Taiwanese temple; I want to shoot it in lane, backyard or between the paddy field which can remind the nostalgia feeling.

Some of the tourists who travel around the world are to explore the other culture, some of them are going to different countries to finding who they are when they are losing themselves. However, If I had more time I would like to make this idea more of a reality, such as a campaign with the airline company, to play the video on the plane during the flight is landing, replaced the Taiwanese landscape and the classic Taiwanese music into my film and the conversation between my mom and me, which welcoming the Taiwanese passengers finally got home .
